Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ulman
İbrahim ULMAN was born in Turgutlu. He is a 1979 graduate of Bornova Anadolu High School. He graduated from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1985. After compulsory service in Kayseri, he became a pediatric surgeon at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery, which is the first and most established pediatric surgery clinic in Turkey, founded by Prof. Dr. İhsan Numanoğlu. In 1991, he worked as a research fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, under Prof. Marc I. Rowe for one year. After his specialization, he fulfilled his compulsory service duty as a pediatric surgeon at Adana Numune Hospital. Since 1993, he started to work in the field of pediatric urology, a sub-specialty of pediatric surgery in Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Division of Pediatric Urology, under Prof. Dr. Acun Gökdemir, one of the pioneers of pediatric urology in Turkey. In 1994, he visited Prof. Rien Nijman in Pediatric Urology Department of Erasmus University Sophia Children's Hospital in the Netherlands. In 1998, he worked with Prof. Stephen Koff as a visiting professor, and as a Stecker scholar at the Department of Pediatric Urology, Columbus Children's Hospital, USA. He received the titles of associate professor in 1997 and professor in 2003 at Ege University, İzmir, Turkey. He took the European Board of Pediatric Surgery Certificate (FEBPS) in 2000. In 2001, with the visiting scholarship of European Urology Association, he visited and worked with Mr. Christopher Woodhouse on adolescent urology. In 2005, he took the Board of European Academy of Pediatric Urology (FEAPU). In 2011, he received the certificate of pediatric urology subspecialty, which became an independent subspecialty in Turkey. He currently works at Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Division of Pediatric Urology. He is the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology and the director of the pediatric urology fellowship training program accredited by European Academy of Pediatric Urology.
Dr. Ulman served as a board member of the Turkish Association of Pediatric Urology, General Secretary and President. He was the founding member and the president of the Society for Pediatric Urology in Turkey. He is one of the founders of Turkey Spina Bifida Association and served as its chairman for two terms. He has received many scientific scholarships and awards from TUBITAK and other national and international organizations. He was a member of the Research Fund of Ege University, Faculty of Medicine and associate editor at Ege University Medical Journal. He has over 130 scientific articles and four book chapters published in international and national journals. He receives invitations from national and international centers for lectures, panels, conferences and live surgery practices. He has editorial and advisory duties in scientific journals. He has organized many congresses, symposiums, courses and workshops on pediatric urology. His scientific studies focused on the leading topics of pediatric urology. Congenital disorders and abnormalities of the genitals like hypospadias, epispadias, disorders of sexual development; obstruction and enlargement of the kidneys and urinary channels as in ureteropelvic junction obstruction; urinary bladder dysfunctions and urinary incontinence, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) related to urinary tract infections are among these.
Dr. Ulman is married and has two children.
